We were lost in the street at 12:30 at night in mid-winter, feeling pretty bemused, and the friendly staff came out to meet us. The hotel has a great location right in the centre of Xi’an, in an area that’s a fascinating mix of old and new. It seems to be part of an old temple or something similar, with big wooden doors opening onto a small courtyard. The rooms are distinctive and well equipped. The bathroom was a large wetroom with both a tub and shower. It was a memorable part of my time in China.

I booked in May, then got a message four weeks before my September stay saying the hotel doesn’t accept foreign visitors. Sounds very dodgy.
