The rooms are huge, spotless, and packed with handy high-tech features. I also liked the new hotel's striking design, especially the Art Deco touches, and breakfast had a good range of choices. But the stay was let down by two things. Check-in was such a frustrating mess that at one point I just wanted my keycard and to get upstairs. More seriously, the heating was the only climate setting available during winter, and the room became hotter than a sauna. I slept on top of the covers, sweating, until I managed to switch the heat off and open the windows. I had to leave them open for the rest of my stay. The hotel looks stunning, but the lack of comfortable temperature control really affected the experience.

It was low season, so things were quiet, though the hotel was still nicely decked out and clearly proud of its Voco branding. We had a lovely stay at Voco Xian Qindu Legend. My kid was delighted by the cute duck slippers and the Robobutler, which you can see in the video. John, Xiao Gan and Xiao Qi gave great service, breakfast was very nice, and the location was easy for Didi drivers to find.

There are plenty of food options and shops nearby, including sports brand factory outlets, and a large Wanda shopping mall is close by. The hotel also has spacious rooms, a good breakfast selection, and quality food and coffee.
