DoubleTree by Hilton Xiamen - Wuyuan Bay

The service was really good, but the rooms felt old and dull. The bathroom looked especially dated, and the room was very dark. It would have been a more pleasant stay with brighter lighting. Next time, I'll pick a newer hotel.

Getting into downtown can easily take 30 minutes each way, which is a drawback. The hotel is okay, with friendly staff and plenty of breakfast choices. The rooms are standard business style, but the cleaning isn't very thorough. Staff handled my complaints, though I had to raise the issue again after a few days. The quality seems inconsistent, and some colleagues had the same experience.

Breakfast was the one issue for us: we eat halal, and apart from fruit and cereal there was nothing we could eat. Even so, the stay was amazing. The rooms were great, the views beautiful, and everything was clean and organised. There were facilities and amenities for everyone. The staff knew limited English but went out of their way to make us comfortable, and the service was unlike anything I'd experienced before.

The rooms are still too hot because they won't run the air conditioning to cool them. It's incredibly frustrating as a customer. The dinner buffet also falls short of Western standards. The building is nice and new, but it could be managed better. Compared with nearby Western hotels like The Hyatt and The Westin, this location has tarnished the DoubleTree brand.
