Swiss Grand Xiamen

There isn't much to do nearby, so we mostly used the hotel as a base for exploring Xiamen by car. Zhongshanlu is walkable in about 10-15 minutes, though that may be a tough walk for older people or young kids. The old terminal for the boat to gulanyu is right in front. Our view wasn't great, though I imagine a room facing gulanyu would have a lovely one. The driveway is spacious, and staff helped with the taxi (didi), doors, and our bags. We were a group of 15 needing five rooms, and this large hotel accommodated us at the best price we could find for what we needed. It felt like good value. The rooms are roomy and family friendly. Ours had two beds almost queen size, plus a bathtub and a separate toilet and shower. I liked being able to see the tub from the rest of the room, so I could keep an eye on the kids while doing other things. There was space for three large suitcases open, our stroller, and all our shopping. Families and seniors should find it manageable, with elevators, large rooms, and wide hallways. Kids can burn off energy in the play area on the 2nd floor, and it was easy to get around with the stroller. The staff were mixed. Most were good, including the cleaning and floor staff, but a few at reception were rude. Not everyone speaks English, but some do, and they can connect you with someone who can help. We could ask for extra towels, children's bed rails, and slippers. I asked the cleaning staff for extra water so reception wouldn't charge me. Breakfast ends at 10:30am. The food was almost the same each day, but there were enough choices. If you like a slow morning, eating at the hotel makes sense because there isn't anywhere close to grab food, unless you order delivery. There were a few drawbacks. On first entering, the room had a strange old smell, maybe mold, but it went away. The air conditioners don't run in winter, though they can provide a heater or portable air conditioner if needed. There's no bidet, so it's toilet paper only. IYKYK.
