The airport is a good distance from the city center, though transport links are strong. Metro Line 14 goes to the high-speed rail station, where you can transfer to Line 2 for the Bell Tower area. Shuttle buses are another affordable, dependable way to reach major landmarks, and sleep pods or capsule hotels in the terminals work well for a few hours during a long layover. Terminal 5's Tang Dynasty-inspired design gives the airport a palace-like feel and is a real highlight. The West Airport Museum inside it is worth a visit too, with more than a hundred authentic artifacts found during construction. Local Shaanxi food stalls offer biang biang noodles and roujiamo, a nice way to try the region's food. The airport feels like a gateway to the old Silk Road, and the newer terminal adds to its cultural character. Allow at least three hours for an international departure. The airport is huge, especially with Terminal 5, and the walking and security take time. English signs are common, but it's a good idea to have your destination written in Chinese for taxi drivers, since many don't speak English. Set up Alipay or WeChat Pay with an international card before arrival, as smaller airport vendors are moving away from cash and may not take foreign physical cards. Check which terminal your flight uses too, because getting between the older terminals and Terminal 5 takes extra time.
