InterContinental Xishuangbanna Resort

The hotel is huge and away from the city, which made it a good place for some quiet time. Our room was spacious and beautiful, breakfast had a good spread, and the service was the best part. I’d booked 5 room, but on arrival they couldn’t find my booking and said they hadn’t been able to contact me before check-in. They had cancelled all the room. Front desk receptionist Ms.Su sorted it out quickly. When I asked her to recommend a good local restaurant, she picked the right one and even booked and paid for the taxi/didi ride herself. Thanks as well to the concierge manager, who arranged special transport for our huge bike bags to the airport. Communication was flawless, and they kept checking that everything was going well. Intercontinental is lucky to have Ms. Su, who went beyond her duties.

The place is gigantic, and the decorations are beautiful. I liked the temples and the Chinese-style spots for taking pictures. The shampoo, body wash, and conditioner all had a tea smell that I really liked. Still, I found a dead bug behind the pillow and another on the bed, plus a huge chip in the wall that looked pretty bad. If I could rate it 3.5, I would. I know you can do better, and hope to see some improvement.

The hotel has a lovely entrance and check-in desk, and the rooms are great. It’s on a hill, so you may need to use lifts or staircases to reach your building. There’s a peacock enclosure of its own, open 830 to 1030, when the birds are released to roam a small area. The adult pool is enclosed and indoors. It’s near the city, but you’ll need a taxi because it isn’t walkable. There’s a local fruit market 10 min walk west along Ronglin blvd road, past the public washroom. The hotel also has a local dress shop and makeup booth you can rent. The area has lots of local trees and fauna, so bring anti-insect spray. The hotel provides blue bottles at the check-in desk. One useful detail if you book here: there’s an airport shuttle at set times. Ours left at 1030am sharp. Check with the hotel about pickup or drop-off at the airport for the time you need.

On a first visit, it can be pretty easy to lose your way.
