Marriott Yantai Hotel

The ocean-facing pool room gives you a view that makes it feel like you're right by the water. The hotel had great service too, and breakfast ranged from American to Chinese.

Everyone on staff, including the housekeepers, was really kind, and I loved the pool and gym. The gym equipment was all from Life Fitness. My room was cozy, clean, and very satisfying. It’s a new hotel on Yantai’s golden beach. A couple of little things were missing: there was no towel basket in the bathroom, and no way to tell housekeeping I was in the room and wanted it cleaned later. The only door sign was “Do not disturb.”

I’ve been in Yantai for business over the past year, and Marriott Yantai has been the worst place I’ve stayed. Room service is slow and often gets the order wrong. They won’t accommodate late night food requests, and explaining what you want can take ten minutes. For an area that’s often full of foreigners, you’d think someone might be able to communicate in English. Why isn’t English a requirement for the employees?

The ocean views are lovely, and there are good dinner choices if you’re into seafood. The beaches are only so-so.
