Shangri-la Hotel Yiwu

We stayed for two nights, with Yiwu’s main attractions, shopping centers, and business districts close by. The Shangri-La Hotel in Yiwu felt luxurious and convenient, with amenities suited to both work trips and leisure stays.

Ailces Han at the reception was kind and very helpful when I booked at Shangri-La Yiwu Hotel. The service was excellent.

Checking out at 6.30am, I was offered breakfast to take away without even asking, which was a nice touch. The location worked really well too, with Futian Market about a 5-minute walk away and a mall in the same building, plus plenty of places to eat. The staff generally seemed earnest about giving good service. There was a smoky smell in the toilet, probably from someone smoking on the same floor and the ventilator bringing it in, but they fixed it quickly. All in all, a good stay.

Having the mall within the property was a real plus for anyone who doesn’t want to keep taking taxis. As for the stay itself, there wasn’t anything terrible, but a few things felt below what I’d expect from a prestigious chain like Shangri-La. The dinner buffet raised questions for me about the freshness and quality of the ingredients, and one of us had mild food poisoning after eating raw fish. The new hotel’s décor also felt pretty mediocre. Most staff spoke little or no English, which made it uncomfortable to ask simple things like where the gym or pool was. Breakfast wasn’t included with the room either. Nothing was disastrous, but a place that should feel like a five-star stay came across more like three stars.
