Jinzun International Hotel

The suites are huge, and if you look foreign you might even get moved to the honeymoon suite (pictured). It comes with paper decorations, suggestive chili peppers, and scotch tape, a pretty funny experience. Still, if you're making the rounds in this province, it might make you appreciate the Intercontinental in Jinan more. For a business trip this is probably the best option nearby, though the place feels pretty dated. I'd guess it was great back in the mid 80s. It must once have been a four star hotel, but those days seem to be behind it. China has some of the best hotels anywhere, and this isn't one of them. There are plenty of issues: dirty carpets, marks on the furniture and walls, hot water that swings between scalding and freezing, poor climate control, and questionable wiring. Maybe bed bugs too, so check the mattresses and furniture. Breakfast is a real cultural experience, with old, partly cold mixed rice, bao (Chinese dumpling bun), hard boiled eggs, and pumpkin pieces. At 9 AM they turn off the dining room lights to signal that it's time to leave. There's no room service. The staff don't speak English, which isn't necessarily a deal breaker, but keep it in mind if you're traveling without someone who speaks mandarin.
