Zhaoqing International Grand Hotel

It’s affordable and nice, which I enjoyed. The room looks okay otherwise, but the hotel feels dated and some things haven’t been maintained well. The bed is rock hard, nearly like concrete, and the shower head won’t stay put, so you have to hold it. The water flow is weak, which makes showering take longer. There’s no conditioner or cotton swabs. This definitely doesn’t feel like a five-star hotel, maybe two or three at most.

We stayed with a tour group from January 31st to February 1st, 2025, and our rooms were assigned far apart for some reason. When we asked to switch, the hotel first said no rooms were available. After we pressed them a few times, they changed their answer about 15 minutes later and said there were rooms after all. A five-star hotel shouldn’t handle it this way. If other rooms were available from the start, they should have told us instead of hiding that.

The bus stops in Zhaoqing include the Zhonghua Tea House at Dongmen Square and the International Hotel, and both make the Hong Kong cross-border route convenient. You can wait in air-conditioned McDonald's, get something to eat, or use the restroom. There are also restrooms in the hotel lobby, which helps older people who have trouble with stairs. Many visitors to Zhaoqing take this bus, changing at Shenzhen Bay Port.

It’s in the central area, with the China-Hong Kong bus pick-up and drop-off points near Watsons, McDonald's, KFC, Bossini, supermarkets, and restaurants.
