There’s a lot here for anyone interested in history, and you could easily spend more than three hours looking around. The museum covers ancient dynasties from the central plain and offers a window into early Chinese civilization. Entry is free, and the staff are friendly and can help visitors register with a passport.

Most of the collection is art, and seeing it is a good way to get a feel for China’s history. We only got through the main pieces in 2.5 hrs, though I think you’d need a full day to see everything. It’s a good idea to buy tickets ahead, and bring ID if you’re local or a passport if you’re visiting from abroad.

For anyone into China’s history, this is a very good museum. Admission is free, but you have to book or reserve ahead through their WeChat account.

The exhibitions fill three floors, with a huge range of artifacts, including pieces from up to 10,KYO. It’s free and absolutely great, and you’ll want an afternoon to see it all. Getting there is easy by metro, followed by a short walk or a “tuk-tuk” from the station.

Henan Museum is an amazing place to learn about ancient Chinese civilization. We visited during China’s summer vacation, so it was packed with families and students, but that didn’t take away from the experience.
