The room was 32°C in October, with no air conditioning, and the rooms felt very dated. There was dried vomit on the bathroom wall and the shower was broken. The attendants were nice enough to move us to another room.

We had a great stay at Novetel Hotel Zhengzhou. It’s in the city’s Central Business District, in a beautiful setting, and the room was big, attractive, and had a great city view. Staff were friendly, though a translation app may be needed to communicate smoothly. Breakfast was great but wasn’t included in the room price. Most TV channels were in Chinese, apart from BBC, and you could rent movies from bed.

There were holes in the bedsheet, and neither the USB charger nor the main light switch control worked properly. The bathroom and bedroom are separated by a glass window, so leaving the bathroom light on, as I usually do in unfamiliar places, let light through the curtain and into the bedroom. It made getting good sleep difficult. I also saw staff leave a photocopy of a guest’s ID on the desk. Do they understand how important it is to keep that information confidential?

I’ve stayed here a few times and really like the hotel. It’s in a well-connected business district, outside the old city, so it avoids the worst traffic. Accor premium members have access to a lounge where they can hold business discussions.
