Grand Bay Hotel in Zhuhai

The breakfast was world class, and the room was great. They really know how to take care of their guests here. I’ve stayed in a number of places in Zhuhai, and Grand Bay View is my best bet for a two or three day stay.

The outdoor pool is nice and warm enough for a swim in October, and breakfast is pretty good even by Western standards. The hotel’s online photos look like the sort of Photoshop job you see on many Chinese sites. The bay water is green-brown, and the hotel isn’t as close to the muddy harbor as those pictures suggest. There’s a clean, pleasant waterside path after a short walk down the hill and across a busy road. Cars move very fast and show no respect for pedestrians, but the walkway feels safe and is good for a workout. Bring comfortable shoes. The water itself isn’t clean. I’ve stayed here several times. Check-in is always messy and takes unnecessarily long. Only about a third of the rooms have a clear harbor view. Those better rooms have a glass wall overlooking the harbor and the new bridge from Hong Kong. Haze often covers the harbor in the morning and afternoon, so the sun doesn’t reappear until late morning, after it comes through the pollution haze layers.

Great property, exotic food, and cool relations.

The setting is quiet, and from the room you can look out toward the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge and the port. The room was clean and comfortable, and even the bathroom had this first-rate view. The staff were warm and friendly, and the buffet food was delicious.
