Hampton by Hilton Barranquilla

Breakfast on the first floor had a lot to choose from, including fresh juices, five egg dishes, stewed vegetables and meat, salads, fruit from bananas to watermelon, cornflakes, different cheeses and sausages, plus hot vegetable soup. The staff welcomed us warmly. Our room was quiet and soundproofed, with two beds and new, modern, multifunctional furniture. It also had air conditioning, a hairdryer, an iron, a safe, a shower, a TV, and a desk. The hotel is small and in a good area, about a 10-minute walk from Viva Plaza, with clinics, restaurants, and shops close by. The neighborhood is safe and quiet. On the 13th floor there’s a fitness center, two jacuzzis, and loungers. It was lovely to relax in the shade in the morning before it got too hot. We had a great stay and want to return.

Yamilet, our waitress, was very kind and looked after us well. The restaurant food was really good, especially the Lomo Saltado and pizza. Our room was clean, and the rest of the staff were friendly and helpful too. I’d stay here again for sure.

The staff were friendly and helpful, but there were some real problems with the room and food. The hall outside the elevator had a strong musty smell and no air conditioning. My room was marked for handicap access in the bathroom, but water ran from under the shower curtain onto the bathroom floor because there was no raised edge between the floor and shower. It also spread into the room when we left the sliding door open to reduce the steam, since the exhaust fan didn’t work. There was no towel rack near the shower, so someone using it would have to cross the wet floor to reach towels by the toilet or sink. That seems like a slip hazard. Part of the wood floor was damaged and exposed, and my girlfriend’s daughter hurt her foot on it. At dinner on the first night, my steak, chicken, and chicken nuggets were only warm. We told the waiter, and the kitchen took them back, but they came out at the same temperature. The buffet breakfast wasn’t very good either.

They canceled my reservation for no valid reason, and now I don’t know where I’ll sleep because everything is full.
