Carlos was happy to share a cup of tea and talk about his work during the two days I was there. He’s doing great things with mangrove reforestation, and I enjoyed checking out his artwork too. The snorkeling tour was a lot of fun, and they even let me keep the gear so I could explore other spots after it had finished.

Spending a few nights at the hostel gave us a chance to learn about Carlos’s mangrove restoration work. He cares deeply about the island and puts a lot into protecting it. Such a special, magical stay.

The meals Carlos made for us, both dinner and breakfast, were delicious, and he and his dog Mango made us feel so welcome. We also tried the bioluminescent plankton snorkeling tour he offers, which was such a cool thing to see. Arte y Aventura is close to the beach but still wonderfully peaceful, and Carlos showed us his mangrove reforestation work and explained how important it is to the whole ecosystem. We had a fantastic stay and I’d happily recommend it 😊

No WiFi, limited electricity, and a bucket of water instead of a shower, but we had an awesome three-night stay and it was all worth it. We loved relaxing on the private dock, just a two-minute walk from our room. The island was a joy, and we had a great time on the snorkeling trip Carlos arranged.

Being away from the crowded party areas meant we spotted lots of birds and iguanas. The staff were lovely and really helpful, and the swimming dock beside the property was a highlight. We had delicious meals there after full days of hiking and swimming, and the snorkeling trip was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. This place really restored my faith in sustainable tourism.
