The staff were so lovely and helpful, and the place is decorated with a lot of care. We had a fantastic time on Isla Grande and loved the activities that let you learn about the island’s nature and culture. The food and drinks were great, with some amazing vegetarian options. The restaurant is tasty, the sea is beautiful, and it’s a lovely spot to relax while using as a base to explore the island. I love staying at Hamaquero. The airy, comfortable rooms and friendly staff make it easy to settle in. Lavinia and the team know so much about the mangroves and reefs around the island, and they’re working on some brilliant conservation projects.

I ended up changing my whole itinerary the day before I left because someone suggested it. I spent a few days here, and in hindsight I would’ve gone to another island before heading back to Getsemaní. The staff were just cool people, and the place felt family-run. Chilling on the beach, walking through Orika Village, and the food were all great. I’d also recommend the snorkeling and plankton tours.

It’s a relaxed, down-to-earth place compared with a lot of the island’s resort-style options. I loved sitting with a book and looking out over the water. The woman at reception, whose name I’m sorry I can’t remember, was unbelievably helpful. I stayed in the dorm and enjoyed being out in the elements, with my own area, a single bed, and a mosquito net.
