Hotel Karlo

The staff were wonderful, caring, and so helpful, and I’d definitely stay here again. Hotel Karlo was recommended by a doctor at a nearby clinic, and we were surprised by how well the accommodations served people needing health care. There’s a nurse on staff, and the facilities are set up to make a health care stay pleasant. The hotel was clean, though it could use some refurbishing. I loved the original artwork throughout.

They told us an hour before we arrived that they had no room for us because of damage. The manager wouldn’t take responsibility, and with carnaval on there were no other rooms available in the city, so they basically left us out on the street. They even called the police, who obviously couldn’t do anything. After years of traveling, this was the worst, most careless and unprofessional service we’ve ever had. I’m still shocked.

The police came and escorted us out of the hotel. They canceled our reservation an hour before we arrived, but we went anyway and were told there were no rooms. We disagreed and waited in the hotel for an hour. Then the police arrived and made us leave. We had a booking confirmation, but that wasn’t enough. What a mess.

The exterior and lobby looked beautiful, and breakfast was free. That was where the good parts ended. I booked online around noon and arrived after 3 pm, the check-in time, but the staff knew nothing about our three-night reservation even after I showed it to them. Since they weren’t ready for us, we waited an hour for a room. The air conditioner worked, but it blew cold air right onto our faces in bed, making it really uncomfortable to rest or sleep. Water leaked across more than half the bathroom floor from the first day, and the air conditioner dripped onto two of my suitcases and their contents. They just mopped and put clean towels down to stop more puddles and accidents. We left on the second day, but when we explained why, they still wanted us to pay for the third night. The staff seemed not to care about our experience at all. Just awful.
