Casa Hostal Bahia

The food was delicious, and the place stayed clean throughout our visit. We felt right at home in this cozy spot, thanks to the excellent attention from the hosts. We were lucky to stay here last week, and when we’re back in Cartagena, we’ll surely return. Thanks so much for welcoming us and taking such good care of us.

The location was handy, quiet despite being within walking distance of the tourist center, and the owner seemed sympathetic at first. But the stay quickly went downhill. We booked through Booking.com at a price that included all costs and taxes, then were charged an extra 5% for paying by card. The rooms looked nothing like the photos and were worn out. The mattress was wrecked, though the owner insisted it was in perfect condition. Our balcony faced a water tank, the window mosquito nets were torn, and there were cockroaches in the bathroom dancing salsa, which the owner denied. Breakfast was just a scrambled egg, a piece of toast, undrinkable fake juice, and coffee. We cancelled, but only got part of our money back. The lost vacation time and energy, and the awful experience, can’t be refunded. We picked it because it seemed to have some character, then ended up running away.

The family who runs the place is lovely and very accommodating. They let us leave our bags for a few days and stay all day after checkout. The rooms are spacious and clean, and everything went smoothly. I’d highly recommend staying here.

The house is spacious and really nice, but it needs some upkeep. Service and breakfast could both be better, and nobody even asks how you want your eggs. Fine for one night.
