El Genoves Hostal

The hostel is nice, and the staff are very helpful, but the pool is tiny and I never saw anyone use it. The rooftop terrace could be much nicer too. After some reconstruction, they doubled the prices. At 58.000 COP per bed, it definitely isn't a “Budget Hostel” anymore.

The hostel is clean and laid back, and the staff are incredibly warm and welcoming. There's no hot water, but when it's around 90°F/31°C all year, that isn't such a big deal.

A cool little place in a typical colonial street, cozy and comfortable. Staff turn on the AC each night and close the windows, which keeps the dorm at a nice temperature. The rooms and beds are comfortable, and the staff are friendly and helpful, especially Andres. Bathrooms are okay, and the small ground-floor pool is great for cooling off after a hot day. The Wi-Fi didn't work in the dorms, only the lobby. The kitchen was small and not fully functional, and oddly, the fridge was kept locked and closed.

The location was very good, but our room didn't match the one we'd seen on booking. It had mold, and noise from the bar next door carried on until 1 a.m. At 2 a.m., they started cleaning the pool noisily. They charged us extra to shower after checkout, and the service was poor throughout. Every time we asked for something, it felt like they were doing us a favor.
