Hotel Des Indes Cartagena

The room was quite nice overall and very good value for the money. There was a strange smell in the bathroom, though.

We won't be coming back. The lobby smelled moldy when we arrived, but we didn't think much of it at first. Our room had no window and smelled even more strongly of mold. The wall behind the bed was completely black with it, as if old mold had just been painted over. This place felt like a health hazard, and I can't recommend it.

We moved the beds because they were too small, and found dampness and mold when we pushed them together. The wall itself felt wet to the touch. When we asked the receptionist how we were meant to sleep like that, she stayed quiet. Asked whether anything could be done, she said the dampness wasn't her fault. She didn't check the issue, look for another room, or even apologize and respond more helpfully. The toilets didn't drain properly. Above them, a ceiling drain was overflowing and covered in cobwebs, and the air was damp. The receptionist's poor customer service made the situation worse. I know it may be inexpensive, but it should still have the basic amenities needed for a comfortable stay. Unfortunately, the service level is seriously lacking, and the replies they've posted to other customers' reviews gave me the same impression.

I thought the bed and room finishes were good, though the room itself was small and had only the essentials. It's a decent hotel for an airport stopover. The drain smell bothered me briefly; I know that's a common issue in Cartagena, but they could still improve it.
