Hotel El Viajero #2

I’d stayed here many times before, so this was a horrible experience for me and my cousins. We had booked a room with two beds for four people, and had WhatsApp messages confirming it with a male clerk. After our day on a boat by the islands, we arrived at 8pm and were told by a woman there was no room because the other person hadn’t written it in their old notebook. The other rooms weren’t ready either, and she said she’d have to clean one then and there. It still smelled damp, which we really didn’t like. Her only offer was to point us to another, very low-profile hotel by getsemany. She did nothing to help sort it out, not even arrange transportation. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

We found bedbugs and their eggs beneath the mattresses. The hotel wouldn’t refund the three nights we’d booked. I can’t recommend it.

Those little Cartagena balconies with the classic green woodwork gave the building a lot of charm and a distinctly Cartagena feel. We only stayed one night, and the central location was excellent. The rooms are very basic, and it can get somewhat noisy at night, but the facilities were otherwise quite good. The shared areas had computers, ice, a coffee maker, and TVs, which was handy for a short visit. We’d been wary after reading the Google reviews, but it wasn’t as bad as we’d expected. It’s neither luxurious nor quiet, but for one night in the heart of the city at a good price, it was better than some reviews had led us to think.
