Hotel Isla Capri

We ended up at Isla Capri after our first choice, an Airbnb, closed after we'd booked, and the host of our second booking stopped responding. We just needed somewhere to sleep, so we didn't expect much from what was meant to be a stopgap hotel. It wasn't the five-star resort we'd hoped for, but the staff, food, and location gave us everything we needed and then some. They looked after all five of us and went out of their way for our group throughout the stay. We'll always remember how warmly we were treated at Isla Capri.

The pool is more like a big bathtub, but I appreciated that it was clean and suitable for children. I saw it being cleaned every day. The photos online make the hotel look nicer than it does in person, though the service staff were wonderful, polite, and attentive to my family. Breakfast was delicious, the beach was right in front, and it was near the chiba rumberas pickup spots. They also sorted out a reservation issue straight away, which had been my mistake. I'd definitely return.

I wouldn't recommend staying here. My family had to switch rooms four times because of the problems, and I moved twice myself. I was eventually given a free “suite,” but in the middle of the night its roof came down because of a major leak. The hotel offered us a week of free stay afterward. I think this may once have been a nice hotel, but now it feels like everything is being patched up cheaply and temporarily. The room building is in very poor shape: peeling paint, leaks, mold, doors that won't close, bad windows, noise, and a bathroom smell. The pool is small, and the busy street noise carries into the night. The rooms are an okay size, the air conditioning works, and the beds and lobby are fine. Service was good, though nobody spoke English. Breakfast was basic but okay. After my family decided to leave for another hotel because of the many problems, they refunded 80% of the payment. I wouldn't host guests here, and I doubt the good reviews reflect what the hotel is like now. I'd tell the good workers to look for another job soon, because I don't think this hotel will stay open much longer.

I had to sleep with earplugs because the street noise was so bad. The pool was unusable, tiny, about the size of a jacuzzi, with just two lawn chairs. You even have to pay for water. The hotel wasn't handicap accessible, and our room had bugs, spiders, and black mold in both the shower and the room. There was no hot water either. I showed the front desk photos of the problems and explained what was wrong. They told me I couldn't post the photos because it was illegal. I checked, and it isn't. The staff were rude, and to me the place was below any reasonable health standard. This was the most horrible hotel I've ever stayed in. Save your money and the headache. It deserves no stars, though I had to give it one.
