We had a really bad experience at Múcura Club Hotel after booking through Hostelworld. At check-in, the hotel said our reservation details didn't match what they saw and demanded about £150 more. Since we were already on the island and there were no boats leaving, we felt we had no real choice but to pay. Then staff said breakfast wasn't included, although our Hostelworld booking clearly said it was. There seemed to be a booking issue involving Hostelworld and its partner booking.com, and staff said their end didn't show a booking for two people. I showed them the Hostelworld room rates confirming the same price for two, but they still insisted we had to pay extra instead of honoring the booking terms. We spent nearly three hours at reception trying to sort it out. Staff were very unhelpful and kept giving us conflicting information. We asked for a refund for the remaining nights because of the stress and unexpected charges. They explicitly said a refund was possible, so we booked somewhere else. When we returned the next morning, they changed their position and refused to refund anything. The property was in poor condition too. Our bathroom was dirty and mouldy, and the shared toilets were in terrible shape. The men's toilet was practically unusable, apparently covered with branches and pieces of wood. The place felt run-down and badly maintained. The patio by the swimming area was broken and a bridge structure was damaged and looked unsafe. Food was overpriced and not very good. After we left, I asked for an invoice. Its room price was much lower than what we'd paid, and it included breakfast, which they'd insisted wasn't included. All of this felt misleading and badly handled. We were overcharged, got conflicting information, were promised a refund that wasn't honored, and spent hours dealing with problems instead of enjoying our trip.

The island looks like a dump, with plastic bags floating in the dirty sea. Outside the three hotels, there's not much there, and diving wasn't great either: the coral reef was in very bad shape, and you can only go once a day. The rooms are run-down, with stained sheets and an old, rusty toilet. Food was limited and mostly poor, though breakfast was the exception. You can eat at the hotel next door for better food and more choice at very similar prices. For me, it wasn't worth the cost or the visit at all, and I wouldn't picture it as even a two-star place, let alone a three-star resort.

The staff were lovely and always attentive to our requests, and the location is really good. But the facilities are old and poorly maintained, and the shared areas weren't properly clean or cared for. Food choices were limited and the quality wasn't the best, so we went to the nearby resort for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, where they have a buffet. There were only two activities offered, and those could be improved. The infrastructure really needs renewing. I spent three nights at Múcura Club Hotel, but it didn't live up to the reviews or expectations.

The price is way out of line with what's offered, and eating there is a bad idea. My husband got severe food poisoning from bad fish, and five months later his gut was still recovering. Half a year on, he's still dealing with health issues and the cost of that. Such a shame. Rooms are generally dark, with tiny windows and nowhere to put luggage or clothes, so everything ends up on the floor. You're stuck on the island, with little to do or see except a few drunk people at the "Pueblito". There isn't anywhere else to eat except the restaurant at the hotel next door, and the prices there are crazy.

The island is beautiful and the staff are super friendly, though none of them could communicate in English. The stay was peaceful and nice, but the hotel is worn down and needs a thorough renovation. Food was boring, and the bar often ran out of different drinks. At around 250 USD a night in Colombia, I expected some level of luxury. We spent a few days dining at a neighboring hotel, where the restaurant was more ambitious and the facilities newer, at nearly the same price. So the high rate can't just be explained by being on a remote island. If this place had cost half as much, I might have given more stars. It's far too expensive for what you get, and anyone expecting a luxurious five-star hotel will be disappointed.
