La Manigua Lodge

The remote setting was ideal for seeing nature and the nearby National Park, and we appreciated how hard the hotel works to fit into its natural surroundings. There's no road access, and guests shouldn't expect modern conveniences or hot water. Natural insect repellent was provided in the room, in keeping with the Park's regulations. We were well looked after throughout. The manager and staff were excellent and patient with our basic Spanish. Each time we came back, there was a cold towel and a refreshing drink waiting. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a unique feel. We also enjoyed the food, especially the packed lunches and snack bags for our outings.

I stayed in the glorious treehouse, perched above the treetops after a climb of about six flights of stairs. Monkeys swung below and parrots flew past, and at night I even saw bioluminescence in the foliage. The resort felt like paradise, with incredible meals and activities. We found it while booking the tour to see Canos Cristales, and they arranged everything, including the short flight from Bogota. There's plenty of getting into boats and hiking, so plan the trip while you're active and mobile :)

I loved all four nights here. The food was really good, the staff were all nice, and the lodge sits so naturally in the jungle that it blends right in. One of the best experiences I've had.

The lodge's eco-conscious approach comes from its founder, a scientist, and the attentive team he brought together. Guides we spoke with on excursions had plenty of praise for Juan Pablo and his work supporting community-based sustainable tourism in La Macarena and nearby communities. Everyone went above and beyond, anticipating our needs and surprising us along the way. I loved waking up to birds and monkeys in the trees. The setting and hotel are beautiful. The rooms are basic and clean, yet felt luxurious, and the cold outdoor shower was a treat. Meals were balanced and delicious. It was easily one of the best hotel stays I've had, even after a lot of travel.
