Cannúa Lodge Hotel

Fab made the activities a real highlight. He was friendly, passionate, and full of knowledge, and the waterfall hike, chocolate tasting, and permaculture tour were all excellent. We also felt safe at the lodge and in Medellín, which made the trip easier to enjoy. Our Cabaña was beautiful and carefully designed, with gorgeous views. The service was personal and attentive throughout, and Fab and the reception team spoke English perfectly. Meals were delicious, and both food and drinks at the restaurant were very affordable. The road gets a bit bumpy near the lodge, but a rental car handled it without trouble. The stay was well worth the drive, and Cannua Lodge offers a memorable experience that deserves its 2 Michelin Keys. We had a genuinely relaxing time.

The grounds and mountain views are beautiful, and the architecture sits thoughtfully in the landscape. The staff were warm, helpful, and knowledgeable every time we spoke with them. Still, the basics didn’t feel flawless for a property with 2 MICHELIN Keys and prices to match. After two days, we’d tried most of the limited restaurant menu. The cooking is careful and uses ingredients from the hotel’s own land, but the heavily reimagined local dishes seemed aimed more at international visitors than at someone familiar with how the originals taste. The confit chicken and seasonal fish were excellent, and the bourbon cocktail was outstanding, though I wanted more variety for a longer stay. The hotel sells a secluded nature retreat, but working farms are nearby, so we heard machinery, music, and neighbors talking during the day. Birds, cows, and other pleasant natural sounds were there too. It wasn’t a dealbreaker, just less tranquil than the marketing led us to expect. The showers have electric heaters, and we had to turn the water flow way down to get hot water. After a cold, rainy day, a high-pressure hot shower would have been welcome. Calling that setup eco-friendly felt like an excuse at this price. Our masseuse repeatedly checked her phone during the session. We raised it at checkout, and reception took the feedback seriously. We also visited in an unusually rainy La Niña season, which limited hiking, and the scheduled activities didn’t fit our plans. Check the timetable in advance if activities are important to you. The setting is lovely and the staff exceptional, but several details fell short of what those keys suggest.

The room was lovely, with a wonderful view, and the food was out of this world. Every detail, from cocktails to dessert, exceeded what we’d imagined, and breakfast was outstanding. We tried the French toast on our last morning and wow. The servers explained the care behind each dish. I can’t remember our final server’s name, but her energy, laugh, and singing brightened the day. Really, everyone on staff was wonderful. Fab guided our horticulture tour and longer hike. His stories during the tour were inspiring, and on the hike he pointed out the area’s vivid history and nature. I work in sustainability and architecture, and I admire the philosophy Cannua has put into practice. The staff clearly take pride in their work and went out of their way to help celebrate my partner’s birthday. They were kind and caring, and anything we asked for, they found a way to provide. We travel often and have had many great experiences abroad, but this one was remarkable. If you’re wondering whether the trip is worth it, absolutely. We’d read comments about the road and even bought nausea medicine, but didn’t need it. It’s a farm road, but we found it neither rough nor dangerous or nauseating. We arrived after dark, after the kitchen had closed, and they’d thoughtfully left dinner in our room. Leaving in daylight gave us a lovely view. Thanks to everyone at Cannua. We can’t wait to come back.

A beautiful, peaceful place to switch off, rest, and recharge. I love the thinking behind the whole place, from its design to the food. Service was amazing, and every dish was great quality. I especially liked that they source ingredients locally and keep experimenting with the menu, so the meals feel fresh and different. The activities and experiences are lovely too. If you love nature and want to disconnect so you can reconnect, this place is for you.
