Hotel Egina Medellín

The staff were friendly and quick to help. The location worked well too, with plenty nearby, including the train station.

Breakfast was great, and the cleaning staff were nice. It was easy to walk to lots of places from the hotel. At night, though, the security guard was very rude and had a harassing manner, which felt especially uncomfortable when I came back late. My room also let in a lot of outside noise. I could hear people talking out there at 4am.

There are plenty of bars nearby if you want nightlife, though I wasn't looking for that, and I didn't find good food in the area. For the price, I found many better places and still don't understand how this hotel's rating isn't lower. I would leave it as a last option. The room description on Expedia said there'd be a safe, but there wasn't one in the room. The only safe was at reception, and it was full when I arrived, so I had no safe for the first 24 hours. The hotel was very noisy even on the 8th floor, especially on weekends, and the air conditioner kept making noise even after the street quieted down. The Wi-Fi was very intermittent and had very poor bandwidth. The shower drained slowly, had a bad slope, and the water never dried up. Don't count on a coffee station, even in what they call a suite. The suite was just a little bigger than an average room, with a king-size bed. One woman at reception, Laura, was extremely rude and condescending. Don't expect much English from the staff, though that didn't bother me; I worked on my little Spanish. This place has potential, but the atmosphere felt very negative, more like a public service formalities center than a hospitality business, with forms, papers, signatures, and restrictions.

The bed wasn't comfortable, which was the one downside. Still, the hotel was perfectly clean, with attentive and professional room service every day. The breakfast was fresh and tasty, though the choices were limited. The staff were lovely and helpful, and the location is excellent. Great value if you need an affordable, convenient place in Medellin.
