I’ve never had such an uncomfortable night. I stayed one night in a room that was clean and well furnished, but part of the window was wooden blinds that wouldn’t close. The busy street beside the hotel is active around the clock, and every sound came straight in: honking, people yelling, cars and trucks, wind and rain. There was no way to shut the window, and the cold at night came into the room too. I barely expected a minute of sleep, and it was insanely cold. The staff seemed clueless. It felt like sleeping in a tent beside a busy road, with no protection from noise or weather. Pathetic.

The balcony was nice, and from the window I could watch drug deals across the street, with homeless people all around. But the neighborhood was a very bad part of town, with crack-heads out front and loud nights. They also made a strange request for payment in advance by bank transfer or PayPal. It rained into my room because the roof leaked in several spots on the top floor, narrowly missing my PC. The day staff were fine, but the night guy was really rude. Forget staying in this area.

The girls looking after us were professional, attentive, and accommodating. Magenta was just what we wanted, clean, cozy, and very well cared for. From the moment we walked in through to our room, everything felt amazing. It’s right in downtown Medellin, and I’ll definitely return. 100% recommend it.

If you want the real Medellín, this place in El Centro is AWESOME, with walkable, hard-core shopping and a deep dive into local life. If you’re too bougie, it may not be for you. The traffic noise and pollution are a bit strong. It’s muy authentico.

The rooms were spacious and clean, and it’s a great place to stay. I was on the 5th floor, though, and there’s no elevator. The front door is always locked, so you have to wait for staff to let you in. They were usually quick, but a couple of times I waited about 5 minutes.
