Hotel Quinta Ladera

We paid an extra $40 USD per night for a fourth guest in each room, even though both rooms we booked had two double beds and seemed able to sleep four. The hotel allowed only three people per room. With the other problems we raised during the stay, we would have appreciated more flexibility. The common areas at Hotel Quinta Ladera are lovely, and the property has a charming look, but the rooms fell short of what we expected from a 4-star stay. There was no mini fridge, TV, or air conditioning, and poor ventilation left the rooms so humid that our clothes felt damp each morning. The bathrooms had no extractor fans, and the ceilings showed moisture. The lighting was so dim we often used our phone flashlights. The curtains also left a gap toward the walkway, affecting privacy and letting light in at night. We found small moth droppings in the beds in both rooms and told the staff.

For $200 a night, I expected the basics, but the room felt muggy without air conditioning or ventilation. The sheets and towels smelled like dirty laundry, and the towels felt like kitchen rags or blankets. The lighting was very dim, and the bathroom had no privacy. I was there with my mom and sister, so showering felt awkward: we had to undress in the shower and toss our clothes over it. I’ve stayed in plenty of “eco” hotels back home in the US, and none went this far. They should make the lack of AC clear on the website. Paying that much left me feeling ripped off. I’m surprised it made the Michelin guide; it seems to me someone may have had a connection.

It’s a quiet, private-feeling hotel, and getting to restaurants, stores, and other places on foot was easy. The staff were friendly and helpful when we needed them. A very relaxing stay.

The cafe-restaurant next door was comfortable, with polite service and tasty food, and the hotel is only a minute from the edge of the Provenza commercial zone while staying generally quiet. My room #20 was spacious, clean, and lovely, and the building and grounds are cute. The service felt relaxed, friendly, and helpful. I’d give it 4.5 stars if I could and do recommend it. Still, the hammock knot slipped while I was lying in it, which could have hurt me. A light from the neighboring building shone into room #20, though an eyeshade would have helped and it may not affect most rooms. There was plenty of hot water in the mornings, but not in the afternoons or evenings.
