Hotel Madeiro

The location is good, though it’s very noisy. The room was clean and fine to sleep in, but the shower didn’t work properly. This is a basic hotel, maybe three stars at most, definitely not four. Reception staff were nice. Breakfast, though, was very basic and not good: cheap coffee and juice, and fruit that had been cut long before it was served. The breakfast terrace was dirty, with squashed food that staff moved around instead of cleaning up.

The location is fantastic, right by the nightlife, and the staff were great and very friendly. But my stay was awful. The pictures do not show what you’re actually getting. My room had black mold, bubbling paint on the walls, and random pieces from various furniture left lying around. It looked like they’d given me a room they planned to fix up, instead of telling me they were fully booked, just to make a quick dollar at my expense. When I asked for a refund, they refused and said I could check out. They tried to keep my money and double book the hotel. I’d give it negative stars if I could. I hope they fix this so no one else has to go through what I did. Please see photos.

I booked more than a month ahead, but when my friend and I arrived, we were told our room was no longer available. They adjusted the rate, but moved us into a lower-value room. Then we found mold. We politely asked to cancel the remaining nights and get a refund for the unused part of our stay. The hotel refused, saying its policy didn’t allow refunds because we’d paid in full in advance. I find that unreasonable when we hadn’t completed the stay. We pointed to the cancellation policy they had posted. They denied the request, then changed that policy within 15 minutes of our dispute. Thankfully, I’d taken a screenshot of the original. Their refusal to honor it left us deeply frustrated. The whole experience was a breakdown in professionalism and customer service. If you desperately need somewhere to stay, I get it, but places like this shouldn’t be supported.

There are lots of restaurants nearby, plus places to visit and buy gifts. The hotel is right in one of Medellin’s best areas, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I had a great experience, really enjoyed the delicious breakfast, and definitely recommend it.
