Miss Elma

We stayed here for five days and were completely happy with it. I’d recommend the place both for a meal and for accommodation.

We had a great meal at Miss Elma. My husband and I ordered the Miss Elma and her Princesses special and shrimp patacones, and the portions were generous. The flavors were lovely too. While the food was being made, we had beers and a lemonade frappe. The pace here is relaxed, like at other restaurants in Providencia. Food is cooked after you order, so patience and kindness toward the people working there go a long way. This is a small island, not a big city, and if you’re always in a rush, Providencia may not be the right holiday spot for you.

The food was expensive and bad, and the service was basically nonexistent. Half the table got their meals after about half an hour, then nothing came for the rest of us. They seemed to have forgotten our orders. They ran out of cheese too, but only told us 15 minutes after the first half of the table had been served. I wouldn’t eat there again.

We went back for breakfast after enjoying lunch there. The Americano came with fruit, scrambled eggs with tomato and onion, bread, juice, and coffee. It’s also one of the few places on the island that takes credit cards. For our late lunch, my partner had the $35,000 peso meal of the day, with barracuda, rice, patacones, and salad. It was his first time trying barracuda. He also had a generous fish soup that could have been a meal on its own. I chose the chicken plate with rice and salad, which was very good. We liked the lemonade coco and jugo du lulo, and our server was a sweetheart. I’d definitely recommend it.
