El Bosque Boutique Hotel

There’s a lot of potential here, but the place wasn’t clean. We found bats in the bathroom area of our room, with bat droppings on the walls. That felt especially unsanitary with our kids. Something made me think the manager already knew, since he didn’t seem surprised, and he wasn’t helpful. Other areas were dirty too. The food was okay.

**Update:** We returned two years later, and it felt like a different hotel. The room had a strong smell of paint and damp. Water was leaking in from the roof just outside, where there was also a lot of nasty fungus. The AC sounded like a freight train, the bed was uncomfortable, and the shower smelled strange and had a very dangerous-looking electrical connection. Breakfast gets one star at most. It was very bad. On our first visit, we stayed one night in a regular room, which was perfectly fine, then in a nice private jungle suite. This is a really nice small hotel outside Doradal. The pool areas are great, the food was surprisingly good, and we loved the outdoor movie theater. The internet was horrible and there was no TV service, but otherwise it was a great place to spend a few days while visiting the hacienda ten minutes away.

A lovely place to recharge, with warm showers, outdoor lounge beds, a beautifully kept garden and very friendly service.

A great atmosphere and a bit of luxury on a budget. There’s a pool and movie night. The one thing some people might not like is that the shower only has cold water, though the weather is hot.
