Breakfast is very limited. The rooms with balconies are nice and spacious, and being out at the edge of town makes this quieter than the beachfront hotels. The first decent restaurant is about an eight-minute walk away. After 10 p.m., take a cab instead of walking there.

The staff were welcoming and friendly. There’s a beach bar just a two-minute walk away, and plenty more bars and restaurants within about ten minutes on foot. The hotel includes breakfast and has secure parking. Rooms were clean, beds comfortable, and they had cable TV and air conditioning. It’s right across the road from the ocean.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel is close to the beach with a pool. That’s about where the positives end. My small room had a mediocre mattress on a wooden platform, just one chair, and no hot water in the shower. I don’t know why they bothered with the chair. For around $50 a night, it felt poorly built and had no conveniences. Breakfast is included, but I’d walk into town for something decent if it weren’t. Finding food that isn’t mediocre in Riohacha is hard, and I didn’t want to spend the time and effort looking. There’s really not much to do in town, which works more as a base for seeing places around the city. Skip the city unless the surrounding area is what brings you. At least Hotel Gimaura has toilet seats, but expect the basics.

The rooms are old and the hotel isn’t very modern, but for the price it’s still good value. I liked the big, well-kept garden and the nice pool, and you can get a cold beer any time of day or night. The shared areas are pleasant, and the staff are friendly and efficient.
