Bosques de Cocora Donde Juan B

After a long day of hiking, my wife and I chose this restaurant mostly because it was convenient to where our car was parked, even though we were wary of tourist traps. We were greeted right away and seated nicely, but things went downhill from there. We ordered with our hostess or waitress, and never saw her again. Simple drinks took 30 minutes, and our appetizers arrived before the beverages. Those appetizers were good enough that we didn’t walk out, so credit where it’s due. The ribeye, listed as new on the menu, was supposed to be medium. While we waited, we heard the large table nearby having repeated problems with their steaks and sending food back three or four times. That made us uneasy, but we carried on. Our steak arrived charred outside and absolutely raw inside, blue and impossible to cut with the butter knife we were given. We were ready to send it back, but agreed reluctantly when they offered to put it on the grill for a few more minutes. Given the cut and thickness, we knew that might make things worse. About ten minutes later it came back even more charred, burnt and inedible on the outside, with a well-done ring and still-raw center. When we called the manager over, he already knew about the problems at the other table. We explained ours, but instead of addressing the unacceptable meat in front of us, he tried to tell us that’s how ribeye is supposed to be. The staff also tried to mansplain the wrong way to cook steak. It was embarrassing given the beautiful culinary world Colombia has to offer, and the restaurant needs to reevaluate its menu and staff. They removed the steak from our bill. We paid for the rest of the meal after another painful 15-20 minutes of waiting with little help, then left. We’d never return, and wouldn’t suggest anyone go until the business makes a huge turnaround. SAD.

We had a wonderful family visit, with beautiful views and delicious food. Our waitress, Jissel Molina, went above and beyond and really made it special. We’ll be coming back.

The food was absolutely outstanding. The fresh steak came on a platter that kept it hot, and Daniela Duque gave us fantastic service, suggesting an amazing passion fruit dessert and staying attentive to what we needed. This is our second visit, and we’ll keep coming back. A MUST!!

Best meal I’ve had in Colombia. The fish was delicious, and Herney did a great job looking after us.
