Samawi

Please take the mold issue in this hotel seriously. We stayed in room 806 from January 20-24, 2026, and my family and I developed dry coughing, runny noses, lots of mucus, and irritated throats. We found mold in several places, including behind the headboard, around the bathroom ceiling, and on and inside the pillows after taking off the pillowcases. I noticed more while checking the room further. My wife and I have lost our voices, and the symptoms are still there. Medicines we bought and took in Colombia did not help, so we now need to see our doctor in New York. This affected all of us, including my 74-year-old father and my mother-in-law. The coughing got bad enough that we had to leave early, disrupting our Medellín vacation after traveling from San Andrés. This points to poor inspection and maintenance, and mold in our room makes me concerned about the other rooms too. I don’t recommend staying here for health and safety reasons. The view was nice, but the windows were dirty and wouldn’t open. Breakfast was okay, and so was the service. The hotel looks all right from a distance, though the details tell another story: a makeshift reception, very basic furniture, no proper room ventilation, no water, coffee, or other extras, and an old TV. The pictures seem either photoshopped or badly outdated. Samawi presents itself as a 4-star hotel and charges accordingly, but to me it’s really a decent 3-star place. I had mixed feelings, but wouldn’t stay again because it’s overpriced and overrated.

The staff are really friendly, and the rooms are clean. The air conditioning isn’t very good, though, and the toilet should be replaced since the tank takes 15 minutes to refill.

Breakfast was included, and the staff were great. The location also worked well for us, across the street from the rental and tour offices and an easy walk to several fine dining restaurants. We loved our stay at Samawi and will book a suite next time.
