Each of the three traditional Colombian homes is built differently and sits at a different level on the slope. The place is private, quiet and minimalist. I spent a lot of time thinking about privilege and life in the structure where I stayed. It was wonderful. You’re among the neighborhood, hearing people laugh, a dark, Lola the rescue parrot, and a baby. Life is good. My space had a queen bed and a bunk bed, a mosquito net, two fans, two very comfortable chairs and a balcony. Downstairs were the bathroom, a table with four chairs and a mini fridge. The fauna is beautiful. This was a highlight of my Latin America adventure, somewhere I’ll never forget and would recommend and return to. Thanks, Ramon!

The birds make noise at night, though that didn’t bother us. If it might bother you, they offer free earplugs. The shower is cold, which is pretty standard for this region. The hosts were warm and welcoming, and we had a great breakfast. We loved seeing the variety of animals on the property, especially Lilu the adorable poodle. It’s also within walking distance of Parque Tayrona, but far enough back that we couldn’t hear the highway at all.

Lucy and her family were wonderful. My mom and I stayed overnight so we could get an early start hiking in parque tayrona. We had a bungalow and left the doors open all night for ventilation, but neither of us saw a single mosquito. It feels more like a compound than a hotel, with bungalows and cabins in different sizes and styles. Lucy’s brother and daughter were on the property and helpful, too. Ramon, who helps manage some of the spaces, let us stash our suitcases while we hiked and then carried them down to the taxi when we left. Lucy patiently handled all our random requests and arranged a driver to the Santa Marta airport for much less than the drivers we’d asked about earlier. If you want to be within walking distance of the park but outside it, this is a great spot. Gracias Lucy y su familia por todo!

The cabana was rustic but comfortable, with a lovely garden. The property is beautiful and tucked away from the highway, yet still within walking distance of the parque and several restaurants. I wish we’d stayed longer so I could spend a whole day in the hammock under the trees, chatting with the very communicative parrots with their friendly puppy at my feet. Not luxury, but lovely. lucy was an amazing, warm and helpful host!
