Hospederia El Marques de San Jorge

Right behind the central plaza, with parking beside the hotel. I loved the two beautiful courtyards and the colonial feel in every room. The staff were kind and attentive.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, and both WiFi and parking were available. Our bed was clean and comfortable, and the setting was lovely, with two courtyards, a central fountain, and an area on the second floor. The room had a private bathroom with hot water. Breakfast was delicious and filling, with local choices like changua (a traditional Ecuadorian egg and milk soup), eggs made to order, different breads, almojábanas (cheese bread), orange juice, fresh fruit, hot chocolate, coffee, and tea.

We spent three days on the second floor, and I’d absolutely stay again. The rooms up there aren’t large, but they’re cozy and quiet, with no street noise. The hotel has spacious parking inside, lots of plants and paintings, and a cozy colonial style. The location is one block from the Plaza Mayor, and the price felt fair. The rooms were extremely clean, cleaned daily, with fresh towels and toilet paper replenished. Staff service was excellent and a big part of the hotel’s success. One owner can sometimes seem unfriendly, though she isn’t rude; the other is very attentive.

We had to postpone a reservation we’d already paid for because of unforeseen circumstances. When we tried to activate it later, the receptionist was not courteous at all. We chose not to go ahead with the reservation and won’t return. There are many other places in Villa de Leyva with better service. I’m giving one star because the rating system requires it.
