Hotel Pacandé

The receptionist was nice, and the bed felt comfortable during the 20 minutes I sat on it. That’s about all I can say in its favor. The room shown when I booked wasn’t the one I got. They put me in a room in the cheaper hotel next door, with holes in the walls, stained and smudged paint, and floorboards falling apart. I asked to move, but they couldn’t help. When I asked to cancel and get a refund, they offered 50%, which felt insulting. The receptionist spoke to the owner, who then offered 75% because I’d “been in the room for an hour.” I’d just been charging my phone and taking pictures of the awful room. Avoid this place, it’s a dump.

For the price, it’s a decent space. The rooms all have windows onto the hallway, though, so you hear people talking loudly at the back, every voice in the hall, the front desk phone ringing, and the doorbell whenever someone comes in.

The room I got wasn’t the one I’d reserved online. Breakfast was rice and beans with egg, and the area smelled like cat pee. Cats were eating leftovers on the tables. The food was served in a way that made it seem like they wanted you to leave.

The location is very good, and we felt safe the whole time. The staff were friendly, especially the reception team, and the women serving breakfast were nice too. Breakfast itself was mediocre and minimal, with portions that should be more generous. The place is overdue for renovation, and the cleaning could be better. I feel we paid more than we got in return.
