We stayed in the Master Suite, the largest of their roughly 15 rooms. I wouldn’t choose it again: its windows and doors are all at one end, so you can’t open both sides to bring in the fresh, cool air around 5pm like you can in most, perhaps all, of the other rooms. The room itself also feels a little dated, as others have mentioned. The views, climate, staff, and restaurant are all worthy of a five-star hotel. Most of the desk staff speak English, which is useful for me, and everyone was kind and upbeat. You NEED to eat at the restaurant even if you’re not staying here. Last night we had excellent sea bass and fusilli pollo, plus an unbelievably good tuna tartare appetizer, for about 80 USD with drinks. Tonight was a four-course Italian meal with wine pairings, a special event at 60 USD per plate. The restaurant manager and chef are both brilliant. I wish them the best!

The view is unbeatable, and the quiet is even better. The rooms were cool, the beds comfortable, and the restaurant had amazing food and great service. It was beautiful, peaceful, and reasonably priced. I’ve never left a hotel thinking I should have paid MORE. I’ll come back one day 🙏🫶🏻

The catch of the day, mahi mahi, was excellent, with great flavors. The ribeye was a letdown: the cut wasn’t good, and although I ordered medium rare, it arrived closer to rare and still raw in the middle. Breakfast wasn’t anything special and, at $12 per person, didn’t feel worth the price. Our room was nice and decent value for a night, though it had an undisclosed water leak that the staff dealt with using a couple of extra towels. Service was good, and the restaurant has an excellent view, as does the location overall. I’d avoid the steak, but the dinner view is lovely.

We tried the new Barons Restaurant last week and came away impressed. The wine list was perhaps the best we’ve seen around Atenas, and prices for both food and wine were reasonable. Manager Jaxson has plenty of years in hospitality, and you can tell. The staff seem enthusiastic about looking after customers and serving fresh, quality meals. Jaxson told us he plans to source from the local community whenever possible, which we love as big fans of the “buy fresh / buy local” model.

The public areas are nice, the views are superb, and the staff are friendly. Our rooms were well appointed but looked a little tired. They could use air conditioning, since the electric fans provided didn’t cool them enough. At first, we accepted the lack of A/C and had a nice stay. Then the heavy rains began, and bugs and various cockroaches started getting into the rooms, especially at dusk. The atmosphere became very unpleasant. Our first room got so bad we were offered another. It was a bit better, but still full of bugs. The rooms looked clean at first glance, though old cupboards should have been fumigated. One cupboard under a sink was crawling with bugs. I gather the resort may be on the market. If new owners take it over, they’ll need to deal with these issues.
