A welcoming lodge run by a lovely local family, in a cute setting with great guide and tour options. We got a free room upgrade when we arrived, which was a nice surprise. We did the night walk and the boat tour to Nicaragua, and both are well worth doing. The family will cook all your meals whenever it suits you. The pool is refreshing, and the garden around the seating area draws in lots of birds and other wildlife.

The family is really friendly, and there are plenty of birds right on the property, including tanagers, toucans, geckos, hummingbirds, and lots more. The bungalow was very comfortable and had everything we needed: a mosquito net, fan, kettle, coffee maker, refrigerator, and laundry and drying facilities. The casado and breakfast were the BEST I’ve had in Costa Rica, super fresh and made with care. We had great tours with Allan, including a boat trip and jungle walk. He spotted lots of animals with us and speaks excellent English. We didn’t mind that the living area wasn’t fully enclosed, so geckos could come and visit.

We started our Costa Rica trip here, taking it easy and watching birds arrive at the feeders. It was a lovely place to settle into the Pura Vida vibe. The lodge is in a beautiful remote spot, and the drive through rolling hills and pineapple fields is lovely too. The road is paved all the way, though there are a few damaged spots. The village is small, with 1 soda, 2 minimarkets, and a bar. The family running the lodge is kind, friendly, and helpful. Alan and dad were great hosts, and mom cooked tasty classic Tico dishes, with generous portions, soup to start, and fresh juice. There are a few breakfast options, and the pancakes are delicious. Allan is also a great guide who knows a lot about birds, as well as other animals and plants in the area. We recommend the relaxing boat tour, where we spotted plenty of wildlife along the banks and in the trees. The jungle hike with Allan is worth doing too. We set off at 6am, but the timing can be adjusted to suit you. The common areas are nice, though a few more hammocks would be welcome. The pool is great for a refreshing dip. Rooms are simply furnished, clean, and have aircon, good for a few nights. The only thing missing was warm water in the shower.

We couldn’t stay in the end, but the lovely owners cancelled our room without charging us. Great service, thank you!

Alan was a great host and an excellent guide for bird-watching.
