Natural Lodge Caño Negro

The wildlife around the well-kept grounds was lovely. I spotted some good birds and spider monkeys, and the pool was nice too. This was our third time visiting Cano Negro and staying at the lodge. They’ve been renovating the rooms and buildings over the last few years. Ours was nicely furnished, with a king bed, fridge, good air conditioning, and a nice bathroom. The food was really good this time. Breakfast, which was included, was well above average. We also had dinner one evening. The menu was a little limited in low season, but everything was fantastic. I had tempera fish and my wife ordered tropical shrimp, both very well prepared. Mine was my favorite meal of the trip. It was a wonderful visit, and we hope to come back soon.

We saw and heard plenty of bird species right on the grounds, even before taking the river tour. Jacob led an incredible birdwatching trip and was friendly and great at identifying birds. If you’re hoping to see birds you won’t find in other parts of Costa Rica, it’s definitely worth spending time here. We stayed three nights in low season. The lodge staff worked hard to make us feel welcome, and Jose and Rudy took care of all our meals with excellent food and service. It’s a real gift to get food this good in such a remote area. The rooms were comfortable, the showers had strong water pressure, the AC worked well, and the pool was inviting.

We enjoyed every meal here. The food was well cooked and nicely presented, and the open dining area made a pleasant place to eat. The garden has lots of birds, and we saw many species from our patio. The grounds are lovely, and there’s a nice pool for relaxing. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, with effective AC and wifi. They’re cleaned daily, and housekeeping does a great job. The staff are friendly and professional, and work hard to make guests feel welcome. The hotel can arrange tours to suit your interests, and it’s right next to the protected area. A great base for exploring the Caño Negro area.

We booked both an afternoon and a morning boat tour, and loved them. We saw countless birds, along with other animals, beautiful flowers, and trees. Jimmy was our guide, and his knowledge was phenomenal. Staff also pointed out animals on the grounds, where we got great photos of a sloth and monkeys. The natural bird feeding station gives you a close-up view and photo opportunities too. We stayed two nights and enjoyed every minute. It’s a lovely choice if you like nature and getting away from the usual routes. Everyone on staff was extremely friendly, and we felt well cared for. The owners, Marina and Pablo, have done a lot of renovations and are still making upgrades. Our room had everything we needed, and the AC worked perfectly. Breakfast was included and delicious, with a choice of continental or traditional Costa Rican food. Both were great. Lunch and dinner options change daily and offer good variety, with special requests accommodated too. Everything we ate was delicious. We also enjoyed talking with the owners. Keep up the great intentions!
