The biggest letdown was a serious mix-up over a proposal surprise. We’d clearly asked for decorations to be put up after the proposal, but they were set up early and spoiled the moment. That was really upsetting at a hotel that promotes itself for romantic occasions and milestones. Other parts of the stay fell short too. Breakfast was disorganized and slow, and staff interactions felt restrictive instead of welcoming. The hotel isn’t on the beach, and you can’t see the beach from the rooms, which we hadn’t understood beforehand. The room was musty and had mold, and the bathroom window faced a shared kitchen area where people could see into the shower. Several rooms seemed to use the same access code, including the front entrance, which raised safety and privacy concerns. We stayed at Dream Catcher in Santa Teresa at the start of our trip, and what we found didn’t match the online photos. The property and rooms looked different in person, and we were given a different room from the one we booked. I’ve visited Costa Rica around a dozen times and know the area and usual standard of stays, so this wasn’t about expecting something unrealistic. We wouldn’t recommend it for an engagement, wedding, or other important occasion where privacy, communication, and attention to detail matter. It might work for travelers with very basic expectations.

The pool is set in a gorgeous tropical garden, and the beach is close by. The flat has a lovely terrace and really comfortable beds, with friendly staff to round it out. It’s such a cozy, stunning place to stay. I wish I could have stayed longer. Dream Catcher? More like a dream place!

Our family of 18 stayed here last week and we were all very happy with it. Every room was spacious and lovely, and the outdoor gathering area made it easy for the adults to spend time together while the kids played just a few steps away in the large pool. The hostesses were so friendly and took care of everything we needed. There’s lots of outdoor space for hammocks, grilling, or letting the kids run around, and the beach is only a two-minute walk away. Such a great find in beautiful Santa Teresa. We’d happily come back and highly recommend it.

The hotel itself is beautiful, and our room was spacious and comfortable, but we had a disappointing weekend. We had little or no running water the whole time. When it did come on, it lasted about ten minutes, and the water was always cold. We raised the problem with staff several times. They kept saying they’d fix it, but nothing changed, even though they had the whole weekend. They gave us only $14 as compensation, saying the issue was outside their control because of city water limits. That didn’t seem truthful to us, since our neighbors said they had hot water throughout the weekend. The Wi-Fi was also very limited, though that didn’t bother us much. It could be a problem if you plan to work remotely. I wouldn’t recommend staying until the water problems and the way they handled them are sorted out.
