Radisson San Jose-Costa Rica

It’s a lovely experience in a very distinctive building, full of plants and art, unlike most hotels in the US. The pool is in a cool spot, though it isn’t heated, which is a bit annoying in the average weather. The restaurant inside has lots of tasty choices, including kid-friendly options. It’s fairly easy to get around from here, not too far from downtown, and some places are walkable if you don’t mind getting a couple of weird looks. The pickup and drop-off area by the main doors can get crowded with tour buses, but usually it’s manageable. Breakfast was amazing, and the rooms were comfortable. The main hassle was figuring out the building when looking for your room during the first few trips. I speak English and had no trouble talking with the hotel staff.

Breakfast was a decent buffet with an egg station, and the egg chef was efficient. The orange juice was good, and our group dinner in the restaurant was pretty good too. We stayed one night as part of a G Adventures trip. The room was clean and large, with a big, comfortable bed. The bathroom felt dated but was fine for a night. The hotel could use more color in the rooms and corridors. Reception is on the second floor, while our room was on the first. Check-in took a while because a large group was ahead of us, but once we reached the desk, we got our keycard quickly.

The building is mostly cement, with little carpet or wallpaper, so noise echoes around. It also seems set up more for big bus tours and conferences at the adjacent center than for small groups. There’s no fridge in the room, which meant warm drinks, especially since there aren’t any restaurants within many blocks and staff advised against walking to find a store after 5pm. They also told me not to walk even to the gas station one block away after 5pm, though I didn’t think the neighborhood was that bad. The place does have a pool and jacuzzi, and the staff were generally warm and helpful. The room and common areas were cleaned thoroughly.

We had a wonderful meal at the Radisson San José. MANUEL was especially kind, professional, and attentive, and made us feel very welcome throughout. Thanks for the great service and experience.
