The meals were included, and the chef gave us one outstanding dining experience after another. Thank goodness for all the daytime activities to work off some of that food. The resort itself is intimate, with three bungalows and a pavilion dining area, all looking out over beautiful scenery. Our group of six stayed at Drake Bay Greenleaf and had a wonderful time with Hellen, Steven, and Vincent’s welcoming family. The resort sits above Drake Bay near Corcovado National Park, with easy access to snorkeling, kayaking, fishing, birding, park tours, waterfalls, and a mangrove. Hellen, who is from Drake Bay, arranged everything expertly and works with the best local guides. Gustavo guided us in the national park, on the night hike, and for birding. We’re very grateful he shared so much about local history, wildlife, and plants. We visited a private property with two waterfalls, snorkeled, spent time at the beach, went to Corcavado National Park, took a night hike, and joined a birding tour. The area, between the park and Pacific Ocean, is full of colorful birds, animals, vegetation, and a welcoming atmosphere. At the resort we saw tapirs, a coati, white-faced and howler monkeys, and lots of birds. We’re not birders, but were amazed by the range and beauty of species native to this area. It was a unique, relaxing, and lovely stay. I highly recommend Drake Bay Greenleaf if you’re visiting the Drake Bay area of Costa Rica.

The bungalows were clean and comfortable, and staying there felt like visiting friends or family. Everyone was caring and accommodating, and the hospitality made the whole visit feel special. On tour days, Hellen worked around our schedule so we could eat before heading out, and everything was timed smoothly. The setting is immersive and peaceful, with lovely views and jungle sounds each morning as everything wakes up. There’s a remarkable amount of wildlife and birdlife right on the property. We saw more than 80 bird species, including toucans, aracaris, hummingbirds, and many others, plus coatis, tapirs, a sloth, and capuchin monkeys. The food was incredible, with every meal prepared so thoughtfully. Alongside the warm hospitality and high-end dining, the property lets you feel fully surrounded by the jungle.

Hellen is such a wonderful host. She was available from the first time we got in touch, helping answer questions and sort out anything we needed. When we arrived, she had pineapple ice cream waiting, and you really shouldn’t skip it. She also made sure we never left hungry. Every meal was delicious. We had eggs and avocado for breakfast, while our 10-year-old daughter got her own pancakes and bacon. Dinner included mahi mahi with vegetables and quinoa; another night our daughter had shrimp pasta, while we had shrimp with vegetables and couscous. Dessert followed every meal. On our first evening, two tapirs came by while we were having dinner, such a treat. We also walked Hellen’s own forest trail and saw more macaws and toucans in our first hour there than during the previous five days of our trip. The rooms were spotless with cold AC, and Hellen even hung a hammock because our daughter asked for one. We never walked into town, but it would be a 10-minute-plus hike down the hill.

The view across Drake Bay and the spotless, comfortable room made this stay unforgettable. The food was among the best we’ve had anywhere, clearly cooked with care. Hellen’s hospitality and attention went beyond anything we’ve experienced at other wonderful hotels around the world. Even before we arrived, she had thoughtfully planned the details and suggested activities that made the trip easy. Greenleaf Drake Bay is a place that stays with you after you leave. We’re already planning to return and recommend it without hesitation.

We spent three nights at Greenleaf, our little paradise on earth. The cabins were spotless and thoughtfully furnished, with stunning views, and the food was delicious and beautifully presented. The whole setting is full of natural beauty and wildlife. Above all, Hellen’s warm welcome and exceptional care stood out. She and her family and team have created something special. She goes out of her way to make sure each guest’s needs are met, and it’s clear how much work the personal service takes, even though she makes it look effortless. If you get the chance to visit Drake Bay, stay at Greenleaf!
