Hotel El Congo

There's a restaurant halfway up the drive now, serving tasty meals and cocktails through the afternoon and evening. The menu has a good variety, and it was especially handy during a heavy downpour. Breakfast was excellent for both taste and value, and the many steps help you work it off. Michael met us at the boat even though we'd booked at the last minute and had unclear Eta information. He has a good sense of humor and was helpful throughout our stay, including arranging a couple of tours. The night tour was particularly good. Our room was clean, the safe felt secure, and the windows had good bug mesh, though in such a wildlife-rich area bugs will always find a way in. The room and the viewpoint above both had amazing views.

The gardens were delightful, and we spent some time watching birds and butterflies. There's also a great viewpoint for sunset. The owners and staff were very helpful, even arranging breakfast at 5am and letting us leave our luggage while we went to Corcovado overnight. The wooden bungalows are simple, each overlooking the Bay. A wonderful place to stay.

We were four visitors from Austria and tried three different places to eat in town. This was easily our favorite. The waitress was lovely and so happy to see us again on our second visit in 4 days that she gave us some Chiliguaro on the house, even though she was already wanting to close. Highly recommend!

For anyone visiting Osa, I'd recommend Roy and Lookout Drake Bay Tours. We booked through our hotel, Drake Bay Getaway, and simply showed up at the place and time they told us. Roy was kind, friendly, helpful, and extremely knowledgeable. He was passionate and excited about spotting animals, which made the Sirena tour in Wonderful Corcovado National Park even more fun. We learned a lot from what he noticed and knew, and he made room for me, the group's photographer, to get ahead and try to set up shots. Bring water shoes for getting on and off the boat, plus hiking shoes in green season for the muddy trails.
