Amaka Ocean Living Lodge

The breakfast was a highlight, and Mariela was such a sweet waitress. I even asked her for the playlist because the music was so good. We rented a kayak after breakfast for $15/hour, and the staff brought it out, helped us get in, and pointed out places to explore. They also have paddle boards and canoes for rent. We came in July during the rainy season and pretty much had the place to ourselves. A storm knocked out power across town for about an hour, but dinner was still being served, and the staff stayed attentive and hardworking. Eduardo at the bar also gave us tips on nearby parks. Everything else impressed us too, from the rooms and service to the beachfront location. There was still construction going on around what looked like private villas, so it seems like a newer hotel. Next time we visit Costa Rica, we plan to come back and might try a villa. If you're in Gulfito, stay here. 10/10!

The view is hard to beat, and the food has been out of this world. The room is incredible, too, and everyone on staff is friendly. So far, this is hands down the best place I've stayed.

The bay view is what makes this place so perfect.

There's a big hangout room with a pool table, darts, and games, plus a large jacuzzi you can book on the roof. I haven't found anything else like it around here. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the hotel offers excursions. I'd especially recommend the speedboat trip. The rooms are cozy, clean, and nicely furnished, with lovely sea views. Ours had a large bathroom, a coffee machine, and plenty of amenities. It's probably the best spot in Golfito, right by the marina. The one drawback is that swimming near the hotel is off limits because there could be crocodiles in the water, though you can go to a beach.
