I haven’t stayed in their rooms, but the food, drinks, and service are wonderful. I’ll be back many more times. Zacudo, Costa Rica is a beautiful place to visit or move to.

A relaxed place with lovely staff and plenty of local color at the bar on weekends. There are hammocks in the coconut grove, just steps from a gorgeous beach. Great for relaxing, swimming, and eating.

The green curry is phenomenal and vegan. They can also make the vegetarian sandwich without cheese. If you’re vegan like me, make sure to say no mayonnaise and no natilla, because they don’t seem to know what vegan means.

We kept extending our stay at Sol y Mar. First it was three nights, then two more after we made friends at the restaurant and bar and filled the next few days with plans. We even added a sixth night so we wouldn’t miss the big corn hole competition. Sol y Mar ended up being the highlight of our five-week Costa Rica trip. The beach is just steps away and was the best walking beach we found in Costa Rica. Most mornings there were only a couple of people around. The setting is stunning, the rooms clean and spacious, and the showers had amazing water pressure. The restaurant and staff were top notch, with live entertainment, horseshoes, corn hole, and beautiful sunsets. Fatima and Carla worked hard to accommodate every need. We also loved meeting owner Denise, who got us out on kayaks in the river and was an incredible hostess. From our first stop in Zancudo, everyone we met had recommended Sol y Mar as the place to be. We didn’t want to leave and love this little piece of paradise.

We heard music while walking down the beach on our first morning in Zancudo, so my wife and I went to take a look. It turned out to be a lovely little restaurant, and it was the first one we’d come across during our stay. Our waitress was funny and quick, and spoke English, which helped since neither of us speaks Spanish. The food and service were both great, and the price made it even better. I’d definitely recommend stopping at Sol y mar if you visit this small beach town.
