Balcon del Mar

Our stay began really well: the room was clean, the staff were friendly, and we felt comfortable. Then, starting on June 10, the second-to-last day, the entire hotel had no running water for two days. No showers or handwashing, and even the toilets didn’t work. The hotel gave us no warning or explanation, and so far there’s been no compensation or goodwill gesture. Having a problem this serious continue for days without communication or a fix was extremely disappointing. It’s a shame after such a good start, but under these circumstances I can’t recommend the hotel.

The hotel may have seen better days, as other comments have said, but the location across from the beach and the affordable room rates made it worth the money for me. They provide a table, beach chairs, and an umbrella too. I really enjoyed my stay again. The customer service was excellent, and every staff member was very friendly. Thanks to everyone at Balcón del Mar!

We’ve stayed in 11 places in CR, and this was easily the worst. Our ground-floor apartment was the last room available after a long trip from the Osa Peninsula. We’re fine with basic accommodation, but this was bad: the floor was soaking wet by morning, everything smelled musty, and there were two cockroaches, including one that ran across the bed. When I warned reception, they didn’t seem to care. The hotel photos look like they were taken a long time ago and very skillfully, because they don’t match the reality. The place has clearly seen better years. Breakfast was well below average too, and they served the pushier customers first instead of people who had arrived earlier. The woman at breakfast was the last straw. If you like cockroaches, you might enjoy it. 🤢

The building felt neglected, and I wouldn’t return. The balcony railing in our suite was so rusty it looked ready to fall three stories. The elevator was out, and the hot tub and jacuzzi were cold or not working. Breakfast was included, but it was the same meal all week. There was no microwave, though we did have a fridge. Police came through the area daily for a situation. Service was friendly, and the stay was okay overall.
