Hermosa Wave

We had a group of about 25 stay at Hermosa Wave for the Bamboo Bass Festival, and the owners and staff took great care of us. They're friendly, accommodating, and make you feel like family. They're also happy to host a party if you arrange it with them. It's a gorgeous place, and I'd recommend it to anyone!

I'm extremely disappointed as the owner of an adjacent property. Since Hermosa Wave took over, what used to be a quiet spot away from Jaco Beach's bustle and noise has been ruined. Parties go on loudly at all hours of the night, making it hard for anyone else in the neighborhood to enjoy their own space. The owners and management seem to have absolutely no respect for others.

I booked the whole property directly with Karla Ortega, the “business manager” and wife of the owner, Jamey Harmon, and paid a deposit in February for my bachelor party. In early May, she called to cancel, saying there was an “issue with the water filtration system.” She offered either another property or a refund. The only alternative was their motel, Marea Brava, which is rundown and had some recent scary reviews. One recent guest had posted pictures of bed bugs. When I asked for my deposit back, she dodged the question, then eventually said it was no problem. Weeks of calls and texts got me no refund and then radio silence. Thankfully, I paid by credit card and managed to dispute the charge. They also let other companies book the property through vacation rental sites like HomeAway, AirBNB, and VRBO, so I don't know if they canceled us to give it to someone charging more, or if this was a scam to push us into their rundown motel. Either way, I'd never book with them again or recommend them to anyone. I'm upset I can't give zero stars. Beware and avoid these people at all costs!

The views are great, and the staff were excellent and worked really hard. It's a quiet place to relax, just outside Jaco. Quepos is about an hour's drive away, with plenty of stops along the way.
