Hotel Mar de Luz

The whole staff was friendly and efficient, and I’ll definitely return. The place was spotless, with clear attention to hygiene and maintenance throughout. Getting around and enjoying the area was easy thanks to the location. Service was great from arrival, especially the manager’s personal attention. They were professional and made sure every detail was handled, which made me feel valued.

The staff were very friendly, but after just one night we left for another hotel. We had the family apartment, and it was dirty, with mildew and bugs and worms throughout. The AC in the room leaked too. The place looked like it needed repainting, new furniture, and a general refurbishing at least 10 or more years ago. I wasn’t expecting the Marriott, and understood it was supposed to be cheap and cheerful, but this was filthy. I’ve stayed in cleaner, cheaper Holiday Inns in Costa Rica and better hostels. The owner should consider closing for a month and doing a full renovation. I highly recommend not booking here, or you may end up scrambling for another place at the last minute and paying twice for accommodation.

This is a family hotel, not a party spot, so keep that in mind. The outdoor area has several pools, including an unheated whirlpool. The location is perfect, close to the beach and city center, yet completely quiet. The rooms and equipment are a little dated, except for the TV, which was the best we saw in the whole CR :D Still good overall :)

The location was very quiet and the staff were nice, but the apartment had mold on the ceilings in every room. I woke up with a sore throat, so it wasn’t a good experience. I told the front desk, and all they did was take a picture. For what they charged, there are definitely better options.
