Our property is located on the south side of Jaco Beach, a quiet and secluded area that is still close to all the action of downtown Jaco. While we were downstairs eating the free breakfast, someone from the hotel staff went into our room and took $200 in cash and my credit card. The card was then used at a gas station and on a shopping spree for nearly $12,000 USD. There are cameras everywhere, but the manager wouldn't show us who had been in the room. They tried to talk us out of calling police and said they'd investigate internally. When I asked for the police number, they gave me the Red Cross number and said it was the police. We eventually called 911, and officers took us to file a report. The staff looked nearly in tears when they realized they'd been caught, and some huddled together with their hands over their mouths. They knew which employee robbed us and were talking about it. A courthouse interpreter came back with us and chewed them out. They looked sad and offered us a free cocktail because we'd been robbed. We turned it down and left for another hotel. They wouldn't refund our stay or do anything else. I'd never return, and I'll make sure people know what happened while we were out of the room.

The location is excellent and the service was awesome. Breakfast was delicious, and they also offer lots of tours. There's a surfing school right nearby. Pura Vida!

On our second night at Jacó Laguna Resort and Beach Club, an employee came into our room without warning at about 10:30 PM while my wife and I were asleep. He opened the door and switched on the lights, waking us up. He didn't apologize, just said, “Oh, I’m wrong,” and left. It was a frightening invasion of privacy, and we felt unsafe. This was the worst and least safe stay in my seven years of extensive travel around South America. After that, we couldn't sleep. Noise from other guests outside our room kept going, and every sound made us jump up, afraid someone was coming in again. There was nobody at the front desk to help. We tried to report the noise the next morning, but there still wasn't staff there until after 8 AM. That lack of support and communication is unacceptable for a hotel. The stay left us stressed and disheartened. We've always enjoyed Costa Rica, but this experience changed how we feel about the region. I can't recommend the hotel. I'd strongly advise potential guests to find somewhere else that puts safety, comfort, and guest satisfaction first. We won't return to this resort or recommend it to friends and family who often travel there.

You can walk to the surf school, shops, and restaurants in a block. The hotel is right on the beach, which made sunset watching a highlight. Breakfast came with the stay and was good, and our room was clean with strong AC and hot water. The staff were great.
